Contempt

Once the Probate and Family Court has issued an order or judgment, whether it is a temporary order, or a divorce, paternity or modification judgment, the Court has the power and authority to enforce such orders and judgments. A party's failure to abide by an order or judgment of the Court can result in a contempt action. A willful failure to abide by a Court order, including an order requiring a party to pay alimony or child support, can result in serious consequences, including incarceration and/or a payment of the other party's legal fees and costs.

The Law Offices of Miriam G. Altman, P.C. is skilled at reading and interpreting the language contained in Court orders and judgments, including those that incorporate separation agreements. We have represented clients in prosecuting complaints for contempt against another party for their failure to abide by temporary orders, divorce judgments, paternity judgments, and modification judgments. The Law Offices of Miriam G. Altman, P.C. is also experienced in defending against complaints for contempt.
